What Does Commissioning a Pneumatic Industrial Manipulator Involve?

After the installation of the Pneumatic Industrial Manipulator is completed, system commissioning is required to confirm the installation status, compressed-air supply access, smooth movement, load balance, clamp function, vacuum gripping, safety protection and operational training.

01Why does the Pneumatic Industrial Manipulator need on-site commissioning?

The purpose of on-site commissioning is to comprehensively confirm the mechanical structure, pneumatic system, balance state, clamp action, vacuum gripping, safety protection and operating procedures after the installation is completed. Especially for equipment with custom tooling, vacuum cups or flipping mechanisms, you should not only check whether it can move, but also confirm whether it can grasp stably, lift smoothly, place accurately, and have the necessary safety protection under abnormal circumstances. 02Preparation before debugging

Before formal commissioning, it should be confirmed that the mechanical installation of the equipment has been completed, and the installation foundation, columns, arms, rotating structures, tracks or hanging structures have been fixed as required; clean up the debris around the equipment and confirm that there are no irrelevant personnel in the operating area. Pneumatic equipment should also confirm that the compressed-air supply has access conditions (interface location, air supply status, cleanliness, pipeline connection, filtering and pressure reduction configuration, etc.). In addition, workpiece samples, corresponding fixtures, on-site layout dimensions, final technical solutions, packing information and acceptance records should be prepared.

03Main commissioning process

Installation review

Verify correct installation of the base, column, connection flanges, arm structure, rotary components, rails, and suspended structures; confirm fasteners are secured, travel-limit structures are complete, and the equipment does not interfere with nearby machine tools, conveyors, racks, guards, or personnel aisles. For column-mounted equipment, focus on the foundation, levelness, column verticality, and operating-radius envelope. For overhead-mounted or rail-mounted equipment, focus on the overhead load-bearing structure, suspension points, rail straightness, and travel range.

compressed-air supply access should be completed by the manufacturer or professionals. After connecting, check whether the pneumatic tubing joints, valve groups, filtering and pressure reducing devices, control handles, cylinders and related air lines are connected correctly, and whether there are air leaks, broken pipes, loose joints or abnormal response. Customers should not modify the pneumatic circuits, balance valves, control valve groups and safety protection devices by themselves.

No-load action test

Without the workpiece, check whether the rising, falling, rotating, telescopic, moving, limiting and resetting movements are smooth, and observe whether the arm body is stuck, abnormal noise, uneven rotation, natural deflection, too fast or too slow. If an abnormality is found, the installation status, compressed-air supply pressure, air connection and mechanical interference should be checked first, and the load test should not be entered directly.

Combining the weight of the workpiece, the weight of the fixture and the working radius, the balance state of the equipment is adjusted so that the operator can complete lifting, hovering, moving and placing with less effort. The relevant vacuum pressure, vacuum gripping capacity and safety margin are subject to the equipment nameplate, technical plan and on-site commissioning records.

Safety protection, rotation and braking tests

Check the limit, anti-fall, air-supply shutoff protection, misoperation protection, emergency stop or safety release logic, etc.; for equipment with rotation function, the rotation range, damping, braking or positioning effect should be confirmed. The swing area should avoid personnel passages, forklift passages and other equipment movement areas. The safety area should be re-evaluated when the on-site space changes.

05Customer training and delivery confirmation after commissioning

After commissioning is completed, the manufacturer or professionals should provide on-site training to the operators. The content usually includes equipment structure, use of operating handles, workpiece picking and placing procedures, load balancing precautions, custom tooling operations, vacuum suction cup usage requirements, daily inspection items and abnormal shutdown handling. Customers should focus on understanding which parts can be inspected daily and which parts are not allowed to be adjusted without authorization (such as pneumatic circuits systems, balance valves, safety protection devices, load-bearing structures, fixture connectors).

When confirming delivery, the complete action demonstration of picking up, lifting, moving, placing and resetting should be completed based on the actual workpiece, and the commissioning status, training personnel, equipment number, workpiece information and on-site confirmation results should be recorded. Why can’t the Pneumatic Industrial Manipulator be used directly after it is installed?

After the installation is completed, only the equipment is placed. Installation review, compressed-air supply access, no-load test, load balance, fixture test and safety protection inspection are also required to confirm that the equipment is suitable for the current on-site working conditions before it can be put into use.

Can load balancing be adjusted by customers themselves?

Not recommended. Load balancing involves equipment carrying, pneumatic systems and operating safety, and should be completed by the manufacturer or professionals. Customers are not allowed to modify the balance valve, air path and load-bearing structure by themselves.

If the vacuum suction cup can suck the sample, does it mean it can be officially put into production?
