Application overview

Handling and turning large panels requires both distributed support and orientation control. AUREK pairs a pneumatic industrial manipulator with vacuum turning tooling for panels. Multiple suction points across the panel support the workpiece for assisted lifting and 90° turning. The operator guides the panel using operating handles, changing between horizontal and vertical orientations and transferring it to the target position.

Configuration features

  • Multiple suction points are distributed to suit the panel area. The vacuum tooling supports the panel, reducing direct manual lifting at its edges.
  • The turning mechanism assists with a 90° orientation change, connecting horizontal and vertical pick-and-place for transfer between workstations.
  • The manipulator provides lifting assistance while one operator guides panel movement and placement using the handles, reducing handling motions that require several people.

Operating sequence

  1. Guide the vacuum tooling toward the panel, align it with suitable gripping areas and seat the cups against the surface. Establish the vacuum and check the grip.
  2. Slowly lift the panel clear of the support surface, leaving turning space between the panel, worktop and surrounding equipment.
  3. Maintain the vacuum grip and use the turning mechanism for the 90° orientation change, then guide the manipulator to transfer the panel to its target position.
  4. Align the panel with the receiving position and lower slowly. Release the vacuum after stable support is established, then withdraw the tooling and return to the pickup position.

Selection and configuration

  • Cup quantity, distribution and contact materials can be selected for panel area, stiffness and surface condition, matching the available gripping areas.
  • The vacuum source and grip-status monitoring can be selected for panel-surface flatness and permeability to suit the actual pickup conditions.
  • Manipulator mounting and working range can be selected for the workstation layout, accounting for horizontal or vertical pick-and-place heights and turning space.

Frequently asked questions

What orientation changes can this panel-handling system perform?

The vacuum turning tooling turns through 90° to connect horizontal and vertical panel orientations. The manipulator provides lifting assistance while the operator uses the handles to guide transfer and placement.

How is the vacuum tooling adjusted for different panel areas?

Cup quantity and distribution can be adjusted for panel dimensions, stiffness and available gripping areas, with suitable contact materials. Adjustable or dedicated vacuum-tooling configurations can be used for different panel families.
