Application overview

Carton stacking requires continuous pickup, lifting, transfer and placement, and repeated manual carrying increases the operating workload. This system combines a pneumatic industrial manipulator with vacuum tooling to grip suitable areas of the carton. The manipulator assists with carrying the lifting load while one operator uses the operating handles to guide the carton to the stacking position, supporting continuous handling at the packaging station.

Configuration features

  • The vacuum tooling contacts suitable gripping areas of the carton, using suction to reduce two-handed carrying and connect successive pick-and-place operations.
  • The manipulator assists with carton lifting and transfer while one operator guides the path using the operating handles, bringing the carton to the target stacking position.
  • Pickup, lifting, transfer and placement form a continuous operation, reducing repeated changes of hand position and helping organize stacking at the packaging station.

Operating sequence

  1. Guide the vacuum tooling toward the carton, align with a suitable gripping area and seat the contact surface against the box.
  2. Activate the vacuum. After a stable grip is established, guide the manipulator to lift the carton clear of its original pickup position.
  3. Transfer the carton using the operating handles. Near the stacking area, adjust the carton position slowly and align with the target placement point.
  4. Place the carton steadily in the stacking position. Release the vacuum after the bottom is supported, then return the tooling to the pickup area.

Selection and configuration

  • Cup quantity, contact area and the vacuum source can be selected for carton dimensions and board permeability to match the packaging surface's gripping conditions.
  • The manipulator's mounting arrangement, lift stroke and coverage can be configured for the pickup position, stacking height and workstation space.
  • Adjustable or quick-change vacuum tooling can be selected for carton changeover, matching the gripping areas of each size to support packaging of multiple sizes.

Frequently asked questions

How can one operator stack cartons?

The operator seats the vacuum tooling against the carton and establishes a stable grip, then uses the operating handles to guide lifting, transfer and placement. The vacuum is released after the carton is supported, ready for the next handling cycle.

How is vacuum tooling configured for different carton sizes?

Cup layout and the vacuum source can be selected for carton dimensions, board permeability and sealing locations. Adjustable or quick-change vacuum tooling can be selected for multiple sizes, using the configuration that matches the current carton.
